Somalia: Truce May Be Predicated on Creating Sharia Courts

President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed‘s government agreed to a truce with the Hawiye tribe and Islamic militant group, al-Shabab.  One alleged term of the truce is nationwide implementation of sharia courts where Islamic law is to be interpreted strictly and applied to Somalis regardless of their religion or how they practice their religion.
